You are welcome. Theft is the criminal analog of the common law tort conversions. With infringement of a digitl file, you are not converting any tangible property.

My post was a joke. It just seems to me that we forget how much we owe the historical figures for our world today and if they had the kind of rights people are trying to assert today, we'd have no civilization.

You are welcome. What bothers me is that the RIAA is stomping on the legal system and that system is mor important than the RIAA's concerns. Plus when the org sued a dead person, a person layed up in the hospital and peoople who have no computer, they should be barred from access to the courts.

Yes. I was trying to shoe that th use of the word is inappropriate the way it is used because actual pirates are violent, despicable people, not teen-age kids.

Hi. The use of the term "pirating" is a misnomer. Check out 17 USC 506, what kids do in downloading is not even rcognized as a criminal act ("illegal"); it may be copyright infringement but that is not criminal, just a federal tort; "actionable, but not criminal. The RIAA only tracks the top 750 or so songs anyway; and the RIAA hazs ben known to sue dead people and people who did not even have a computer. According to them if you left a book on your doorstep and someone picked it up and copied it, you'd be liable for infringement. The RIAA wants to destroy american jurisprudence with that kind of logic--they don't want to even have to prove infringement to get damages. Music is wonderful but not more important than one's constitutional rights. The first amendment trumps a copyright infringement claim every time. All I wantd to say was that real pirates don't download music, they actually kill people. That's the truth and the truth is more important.
